Conversations in Clay - She, He, the Sheet and All That - 1988

Foreword

In 1984 she restored her grandfather’s house, a historical site built in 1887 in the Neve Zedek Quarter — the first house of Tel Aviv. It houses a collection of her sculptures and is regularly visited by people from all over the country.

Film director Eitan Wetzler of Castel Productions, Ltd, produced a film (27 minutes) entitled Conversations in Clay, presenting Lea and her work. The film was screened in 1986 under the auspices of the Israel Foreign Office in the United States and several European capitals. It was also shown on coast-to-coast American cable television. It was screened in Israel in 1987 at the Jerusalem Cinematheque and by the Israel Educational Television Service.

In 1984 we published More Conversations in Clay and in 1987 we printed a second edition of Conversations in Clay. We are proud to present this third book on Lea’s sculpture.

Shuki Kook, one of the foremost photographers in Israel, has managed to translate into the language of photography from the sculptor’s medium all those material qualities and different layers in Lea Majaro-Mintz’s creations. He has thereby achieved a photographic quality of its own intrinsic merit.

Accompanying the photographs appear remarks that Lea scribbled down in handwriting during the process of creation.
